During this time of reflection and preparation, this 2019 Lenten season we offer up our effect on the environment through our consumption of meat and animal-based foods and products. We also look at other ways to “green” our lives.  

Below are three organizations—Global Catholic Climate Movement (GCCM), Franciscan Action network (FAN), and Maryknoll—who offer suggestions and resources for lent, with GCCM and FAN focusing on greening our lives during Lent (or longer!).

Eating Simply


GCCM has a campaign to focus on simple eating this Lenten season, which a commitment to plant-based meals. Offering education about the effects of cattle ranching on the environment and resources for family, community, and communication. (English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese)

Franciscan Action Network:

40 days; 40 ways: A Guide to a Green Lent


Here FAN offers a guide with many ways to engage in the Lenten season including food choices, activities, education, and personal practice. (English)


Communities of Missionary Disciples


Offering reflection resources for each week of lent with the first week focusing on accepting our humanity, looking at how Jesus joined us in our humanity in his sacrifice.  (English and Spanish)
